Class Evaluation

  1. The things that I liked about this class were that we had class time to work on assignments that were going to be due. This is very helpful because if we had any questions, we could ask him and maybe even finish the assignment before it was even due.
  2. The things that I did not like about this class were that sometimes we didn't get time in class to work on hard assignments that would require several hours of work. Also, we didn't get much free time even though we would do work every day for most of the class period.
  3. I would recommend that this class would get more time to do difficult assignments like we did so today and give a little more time for deadlines.
  4. The highlight of this class was that I learned many things that I was unaware of. I learned how the internet works and how everything is available for everyone to see.
  5. I believe that I did good in this class. I admit I could've done better, but since I had a lot of other things to do I didn't put all my effort into this class.
  6. The things that I am doing to qualify for college credit for this course is that I am trying to study in order to remember  for the AP exam and be prepared.
  7. I have been reading my life planning goals everyday for at least 5 min. daily. I have accomplished some goals like applying for as many colleges that I can and doing my best in the personal insight questions.
  8.  I am committed to being an Arete and a CTR person every day, every way because I want to be a great person and be an example that other can follow. I also want to be successful in life and by being this two things I know that I will.

                            3D Mini Universe Printing

  • This innovation lets you create your own little universe to print and have in the palm of your hands.
  • This will impact many people that want to know what the universe us and how it involves us.
  • This will not solve any big problems, maybe just let people know how the universe is made.
  • I think that this is a good innovation that will help us understand the universe more and be able to explain how it works to others.

                           Internet Innovations
  • ·         This change in the internet is that we can communicate with people all over the world and not by using letters or phones. Since the internet can connect with thousands and thousands of people, it is a great way of communicating.
  • ·         This has already impacted many people since it is better than talking to someone with letters or phones. People can now see each other on computers and be able to see their loved ones half across the world.
  • ·         This can solve the problem of traveling. Since some people don’t have money to travel and see their loved ones, they can use the internet as a way of communicating like through a face chat or even just sending messages instead of using the old fashioned methods.
  • ·         I think that since the internet has existed, many things started developing. Now a days, we use the internet not only for communicating but for others things like doing research and buying things, etc. The internet has helped us progress with being able to do plenty more things than we could’ve done without it.

Technological Innovations
  • ·        This innovation is called the Jewelbot. It is a friendship bracelet that teaches kids how to code. It changes color according to the outfit and has a little plastic flower with LED lights that can connect up to 8 friends.
  • ·        This can impact many people, buy mostly young teen girls because this product is most likely to be used by girls. It can help them learn to code. After asking several women what they would have liked to learn at a younger age, they responded with learning to code.
  • ·        This innovation will help solve the problem of not knowing what coding is. By using this, many people will learn what coding is and may get them interested about what they can do with it.
  • ·        I think that this is a great innovation because it will teach many people the importance of learning what coding is and how it can benefit them. Also it can help more young girls to become friends because this product is based on friendship.

   Ben Carson
  • ·        Ben Carson is a retired neurosurgery that accomplished performing the first successful separation of Siamese twins.
  • ·        This was achieved by being an arête person and practicing until he became a neurosurgeon.
  • ·        Technology could’ve impacted this achievement by not letting him concentrate on the things that made him what he is now and let him focus on things that didn’t make him better.
  • ·        I think that this arête experience is a good example of what you can become if you are an arête person and never give up. If Ben Carson would’ve given up, he wouldn’t be who he is today.

     Internet Giveaway

  • ·         The internet giveaway is a fight that wants to giveaway the internet. The Republicans believe it is a good idea and that it will help others control the internet and not make us worry about that. It can be a security issue but it can also benefit us in multiple ways .Of course the Obama administration rejects this offer, but the Republicans are on the verge of caving in and this may be bad because it would be a serious loss for the U.S.

  • ·         The excellence achieved by Roger Bannister is that he became the first to have completed a mile in less than 4 minutes.
  • ·         This excellence was achieved by training with his friends and not giving up on his long runs.
  • ·         Technology could’ve impacted this experience by not letting him concentrate and making him loose focus on his running.

REAL-LIFE TRANSFORMERS

  • This innovation is basically a real life transformer. A Turkish company has started to build transformers out of BMW 3 series coupe. It took about 12 engineers and 4 supporting technicians 8 months to complete this prototype.
  • This will impact many people as it is seen in just a movie and now it has come true. They will be able to see it transform into a robot and a car in person.
  • This innovation may not solve any problems. Maybe it can be a way of not using computers and actually using real life things.
  • I think this is a real cool innovation that should've been invented years ago. Its surprise me that they actually did it knowing how difficult it must’ve been.

 Mikaele Oloa

  • The excellence achieved by Mikaele Oloa is that he became the 2005 and 2006 World Fire Knife dance champion at the age of 15. That made him the youngest person to ever compete and win that competition.
  • This excellence was achieved by practicing and not giving up. Although he was young, he didn’t let that stop him from trying to compete.
  • Technology could’ve impacted him by not letting him focus on his main priority and wasting his time on other useless things instead of practicing.
  • I believe that this is a great way of showing what arete can lead you to. He decided that he was going to be arete and it gave him the patience to keep practicing and not giving up. If he would’ve given up, he probably wouldn't be known for his great achievement today.

Blown to Bits Ch. 3

In this chapter, it talks about the old disks that were used in computers. They belonged to a certain person from the syrian government. There was a story about the former Prime Minister of Lebanese. They accused his brother, the former, commander of the Republican Guard. They discovered that in his computer was secrets that showed them the truth of who killed the Lebanese prime minister. They made him erase his history and change computers. Years later, they bought those disks and found out some interesting things. What surprised me the most about this chapter is that we think that we can actually erase things from our computers but in reality they don’t. The things you erase can really never be erased unless it’s erased from the actual disks.

Blown to Bits Ch. 2

This chapter talks about how it  is dangerous to share private information on any computer. It can lead to identity theft, stealing money from credits and many other things. Also they talk about how tracking devices can help you do things you could never imagine doing or figuring out. For example it says that tracking devices can help anyone even criminals which can be used to follow people. Not only that but by using tracking devices it can lead you to finding information about the government and other jobs as well. What mostly stood out to me was that using simple things like tracking devices to find out a lot of information about government things.

Carl & Margaret Karcher

  • The excellence that was achieved by these two people is that they founded Carl's Jr.
  • This excellence was achieved by being arete people and achieving what they wanted. They never gave up, even when the started small they ,managed to become one of today's most popular food chains.
  • This arete experience could have been impacted by technology by making them lose focus of what they wanted to achieve. They would've focused more on technology stuff then in their food stand.
  • Reflection: I think that this excellence achieved was great because if it weren't for them trying to accomplish something, they wouldn't have Carl's jr. one of the most famous fast food places. I learned that if i want something in life i should work hard and not give up. I should also live an arete life.

    Mia Hamm

  • This excellence that was achieved by Mia Hamm was competing in the U.S Women's National soccer team for 17 years and won the Women's world Cup in 1991 and 1999. Not only that but she won Olympic Gold Medals in 1996 and 2004.
  • This excellence was achieved by training and never giving up. Also she was an arete person that always worked hard for what she wanted until she achieved it.
  • Technology may have impacted this arete  experience by not letting her concentrate. For example nowadays people get so caught up using technology that they forget that there are other things to do that just use technology. Since back then there was little to no technology, she didn't lose her focus from what she achieved.
  • Reflection: I think that this is a wonderful thing that she was able to accomplish . This is because some people choose to give up and not go on with their goal. Not only that but she is an excellent role model to young athletes that want what she did.

Luke Aikins

  • The excellence achieved by Luke Aikins is being an expert at the skydiving discipline of diving.
  • The excellence was achieved by being an arete person and learning how to be a person that has great excellence.
  • Technology could have impacted him and the arete part of him because he could have used other methods of skydiving without being an arete person.
  • Reflection: I think that this excellence achieved was a good challenge because now other people that want to do the same as Luke Aikins can really push themselves to be like him and learn how to be arete people in life. Some lessons of life that i learned from this man is that if you want something really bad you must work hard for it and never quit.
